Puppy love

Last week I got to babysit this little gem:

This is my sister's little baby puppy, Lily. Isn't she just devine? We had the nicest week together, I loved walking her in the mornings, and letting her fall asleep in my arms at night. She is such a little cutie and got massively spoiled while she was in my charge - premium ham, Lila??

Instagram

Have you tried the Instagram app for iPhone? I am loving this little tool right now - talk about taking a dodgy iPhone photo to a whole new level. Check these cute snaps from my friend's engagement party last weekend.

Paris dreaming

I've been told today that I look very Parisienne...but really only because I'm wearing a stripy shirt and was carrying a breadstick at the time! But in the spirit of Paris here are a couple of shots taken on the humble iPhone while I was there...craving a croissant anyone?

Mother's Day

For mother's day last weekend, my sister and I took Mum up to Mount Tamborine - such a beautiful spot! We dragged the sister's boyfriend along too...poor lad had to sit through the humiliation of us three girls playing ABBA at full volume, complete with dance moves, as we drove up the mountain in the convertible with the roof down. I think he was dying inside. We spent the day looking at cute antique stores, lolly shops, the markets, and cheese places...mmmm!

Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you?

It's no secret that I'm a bit of a Crazy Cat Lady. I'm not covered in fur or reeking of cat food or anything extreme like that, but I love cats and I have two pet cats of my own who I absolutely adore: Kitsa & Bella.
Everyone says dogs are man's best friend, but I love the quote "Cats could very well be man's best friend, but they're never going to lower themselves to actually admitting it"! I love that cats have attitude; they seem so sophisticated and snobbish, it's hilarious. Kitsa has recently been coming in every night and plonking herself on either me or my roomie, R, while we watch TV...I would like to think it's out of love, but I think she's just after the body heat, truth be told.

Bella, making a bed of my accessories case.

Doing what cats do best.
Of course they get Christmas presents!

The world is a stage..

After going to a musical at the theatre the other night, I've been feeling quite melacholy about sitting in the audience rather than being on stage! I love and miss performing so very much, but I still love going to the theatre as much as I can. I remember in Edinburgh during festival time, there were thespians all over the streets, posing randomly, singing unaccompanied atop a set of stairs leading up to an ancient church, performing comedy in a dark and dingy room 5 stories up in an attic, all to crowds of all kinds people. Live performance is such an amazing and enriching thing for everyone to enjoy - performers and audience alike. It tells a story, and it moves you, plus it's heaps of fun.

"Well, I have a dream too, but it's about singing and dancing and making people happy. It's the kind of dream that gets better the more people you share it with. And I found a whole group of friends who have the same dream, and that makes us sort of like a family."

Grey Gardens

"Raccoons and cats become a bit boring...I mean, after too long a time" - Edie Beale

I saw this wacky but wonderful film the other day and had to share.

It's about the eccentric aunt and first cousin (both named Edie Beale - and referred to throughout as "Big Edie" and "Little Edie" - Big Edie is the mother of little Edie) of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and their rejection of New York high society for a life at their rambling Long Island retreat "Grey Gardens". Mother and daughter, through circumstance, end up living together permanently at this estate, and it slowly but surely disintegrates (along with the sanity of both women) into an infested mess, full of cats, mice, and general debris - think "Hoarders". It's based on a true story; apparently there was quite a scandal and their story made national headlines when Jackie Onassis saved the estate, going home to help her wayward rellies, who shocked the world given that they were aristocrats, living so badly. A documentary about the two was made in 1975, but this 2009 film tells their story, prior to and up to the premiere of the documentary. It's sad but comical at the same time, thought provoking and fascinating.  I'd love to see the original documentary of the actual women. Check it out if you're after something interesting..

Gotcha!

I am quite out of place speaking on this subject, and I don't claim to know anything about politics. In fact, I know very, very little about politics. BUT of course over the last few days the big news has been around the death (or, more accurately, killing) of Osama Bin Laden. He was an evil man, he did evil things, but does anyone else find it just a tiny little bit disturbing to see footage of Americans dancing around jubilantly on the streets celebrating? I'm not sorry he's dead, and I definitely think the USA did the right thing in knocking him off his perch (permanently), but the outright displays of joy make me feel a touch uncomfortable. Does anybody else feel the same? Am I being oversensitive? I'm sure if knew a 9/11 victim, I'd feel the same way.
